See London in a new light

Our Illuminated River Official Boat Tours are back. Join us!

The Illuminated River project is transforming the capital at night, lighting 9 bridges on the River Thames between London to Lambeth bridges, making it the longest public art commission in the world. The first four bridges were illuminated in 2019: London, Cannon Street, Southwark and Millennium bridges. Earlier this year five more bridges were lit up: Blackfriars, Waterloo, Golden Jubilee, Westminster and Lambeth bridges.

Internationally-acclaimed artist Leo Villareal and British architectural practice Liftschutz Davidson Sandilands have used the latest LED technology to ‘paint with light’, producing beautiful patterns that subtly unfold across the bridge structures.

The artwork is best experienced from the river itself, so join the official City of London Guides or City of Westminster Guides on board as they take you on an evening boat journey, and learn all about these great landmarks of London.

On board you'll find a café bar selling a selection of refreshments to make your journey even more pleasant.

Guest speaker on 24 September - Totally Thames

Join Chris Waite, Director at Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands (LDS), for a journey under the Illuminated River bridges. With their long-standing work on London's South Bank and award-winning design for Golden Jubilee footbridges, LDS have extensive experience of working by the central London area of the Thames and a unique understanding of its public realm and bridges. Project architect Chris Waite will provide insight into the design process and technical challenges that have been overcome in delivering the world's longest public artwork.
